After two days in the Czech Republic, the team arrived in Poland for a two-day engagement in Zabrze following a travel day. While Crimson are normally on point for their shows, to these ears, this show has something of an extra spark, resulting in a more fiery performance than usual. Maybe it’s because they had a day away from the stage? Who knows, but take a listen to Larks’ Tongue In Aspic Part 1 and Jakko’s lightning-fast lead interventions before the bass solo. Phew, talk about getting in and out! Jakko is also on fine form with his pipes on Easy Money, not only providing first-class vocals in the verses but offering up some stellar wordless improv in the middle section. Fripp’s outing in the same piece is classic stuff as well. Elsewhere, Fripp is in a playful mood. On Schizoid Man, following Mel’s extended solo spot, Fripp returns only this time channelling a phat fretless bass sound to spar in a flurry of exchanges with Harrison. This incomplete recording runs out before Harrison has time to properly embark upon his obligatory solo spot. All in all, this is quite a gig.
