Although 21st Century Schizoid Man had been a crowd favourite from their earliest days, until the advent of the new Crimson formation from 2014 onwards, other numbers from their debut album had rarely been heard in concert. Epitaph, for example, was last heard on stage at the Fillmore West at the end of the 1969 US tour and the end of the original band. In The Court Of The Crimson King had briefly surfaced in 1971 with the Islands-era band, but quickly dropped as the band sought to prioritise new material and search for their own identity. The result was both tracks remaining unplayed for over forty years. Perhaps this is why, when In The Court Of The Crimson King and Epitaph roll out, you can hear a particularly enthusiastic reaction at both the start and end of these pieces.
