“I don’t know my trucks, I just play bass” “It is not a birthday cake lest you put the candles in the cake”

It had been quite some time since the band had returned to Norfolk proper. Some say Harborfest, others say Chicho’s. Either way, it was a reunion worth waiting for as this show rocks. Thanks to Josh and his team at the Annex for propping up a quality venue that’s fun for the whole family. And of course shout out to our friend the bday boy Jack Gallagher who 1) assembled the Norfunk Allstars to open the set. 2) ran sound for the night 3) recorded this set you are about to listen to 4) has been a friend since the band’s earlier days 5) shares a birthday with Goldilocks. Now for the details…

The band opened up with their new pop country anthem “Some Kind of Party (In Here)” which was due out the following week. “393” is extra spacey. Slow build with high reward. Kinda an evil “boys of summer” thing going on. “My Best Friend” back in rotation lately in the spirit of the band’s upcoming folkish record (due out in the fall?). Wheel always rocks. “El Perro Triste” in preparation for a wedding the following day in which the band and groom requested the tune. It’s one of the best renditions ever. “Marty Song” and then a soft and sultry “Lady in Green” to cool things down. “New Minglewood” was the alternate encore option at Local Dead People’s gig at Ripple Ray’s the night before in Richmond. Great version. First time played at a proper show “Me & My Lady,” the follow up single to “Some Kind of Party.” “Dust Mites” features a cool “9,6,7,6,5 theme” for all the nerds out there. Stand out version. “Porridge” is a good time to blow off some steam. It’s Goldilocks’ 30th birthday and thusly she has to pick out the perfect cake and candles. “Cobbler” and a Cake cover to carry on the food theme. Cobbler is super ambient and mellow. Great headspace to swim in. Until the bad trip starts…. Uh oh. Wasted to end the set. Brian announces the 3rd/4th annual Hot Dog Banger.

Encore theme: Hot tub time machine
