recorded LIVE at The Owl & Thistle, Seattle 9/9/02
"Summer, back in Seattle in between tours, what to do, must have harmony, must be mellifluous, must call Craig Flory and revive horn thing with organ and drums, but then I run into Steve Moore, and then Dave Carter, let's call Hans Teuber. Who needs money when you can have FIVE HORNS!! This will be fun for a few weeks until I reunite with the Colonel, but then by the 3rd or 4th gig, SOMETHING HAPPENS, band members are staggering back-stage after the show looking confused, wondering 'what just happened?', 'did that really happen?' I try to ignore it as just another "good gig," unfortunately subsequent gigs and rehearsals only improve then music and inspire the musicians to write new material and another band is reluctantly born. I did not intend to create another band - all my bands have been born from the same 'invisible womb' - but rest assured that this music is unmanipulated, and a pure accident (James Joyce said "Mistakes are the portals of discoveryā€¯). At this point it's time to call Mell Dettmer, create a small control room in back of the Owl & Thistle, record live and see what happens; this is what happened, and is still happening. P.S. if you like this music check out the Thelonius Monk Octet."
