Reviews for Widespread Panic: 8/12/2006 Chicago Theatre, Chicago, IL

Hey 1PanicFan for being such a Panic fan you sure don`t sound like one. Quit your crying and enjoy the band you love. I don`t how it sounded on the balcony. I attended all 3 nights but was on the floor all 3 nights. The sound couldn`t be more crisp. In the beginning of the second set they needed to turn it up which took about 2 minutes. Saturday night was probably the worse night of the 3 night run based on quality of playing, which I kind of figured anyway. Saturday is when you`re most likely to get more songs but in shorter blocks and shorter jams, without any continuous jams. It was probably the shortest show of the 3 nights also. They played strictly to the book without really stretching out the songs. Still a good show. Friday incredible show with monstrous jams throughout. Listened to it on my way up to Sundays show. Sundays show forget about, absolutely smoking to the rim. Don`t get no better. If you were there and you say it wasn`t smokin then go see Trey and Mike shows. You know this is what Deadheads sounded like in 1994, just like you. Constantly crying about the setlist, sound, etc. Then the next year they were gone. Ask any Deadhead who complained about too much Liberty, or I Fought the Law now if they could take all that back and hear those songs and have the Grateful Dead back they would do anything. They wouldn`t care if the Dead encored with Easy Answers everynight, they would be there. So stop complaining and be happy Panic is still here playing music for us. Nobody since the Dead has hit me like PANIC. The DEAD were the first band where I would spend money to travel across the country to see, no other band has done that for until I was introduced to PANIC. SO THANK YOU PANIC AND KEEP US DANCING AND DON`T EVER STOP. Panic to close out the tour I say. I`ve seen all these so called jambands. YOU ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAPTURE THAT GRATEFUL DEAD experience in a way where I mean you take your fans to another place for a few hours. Time stands still and you forget about everything else in life. Your body can`t stop moving and you just let everthing out and that`s how I felt at a DEAD show. I feel the same way at a PANIC show. I think Jerry Joseph said it best in TEWSY "one of things I don`t like about a lot of the so called jambands nowadays is that they went to a Grateful Dead concert on a Sunny Sunday afternoon in Palto Alto. Ate mild dose of mushrooms, there were pretty girls everywhere and Bob Weir sang every song. And those bands walked away with the light or the happy side of the Grateful Dead. The thing I always liked about theGrateful Dead was there was also a dark side to the Grateful with the Hells Angels and drug overdoses. And of all the Jambands I can think of Widespread Panic is the only band that I can think of that has a light side to them but also has that dark underbelly to them and that what makes them so special."
DON`T QUOTE WORD FOR WORD BUT I KNOW JERRY SAID SOMETHING LIKE THAT. HAHA I`m a JACKMORON.
So to J.B., JOJO, DAVE, TODD, DOMINGO, SAM, JOHN, GEORGE, MIKEY:), and our newest family member and also DEAD FAMILY member JIMMY, I say thank you for what you have done and brought to my life and made it so much blighter. I look forward too the future of countless years of music together. Keep it coming because as long as you keep playing we`ll all still be here listening and if it feels good we`ll shake. As our good friend Col. Bruce said in TEWSY "if the girls come and sing the lyrics, the band will last." WIDESPREAD you guys get more beautiful ladies dancing and singing at your shows then the Playboy mansion.
Have a nice break and I`ll see you in September.

I hate to be the proverbial wet blanket, but we were stuck in the upper deck where the sound was terrible - muffled bass and nothing else. Couldn`t hear any groove at all. Throw in the brutal no smoking policy (that was actually enforced near me) and long beer lines, and this was the most disappoitning panic show I`ve been to (saw my first show in 1992 and have seen the boys about 35 times). Maybe it`s the transition away from George, or maybe it was the end of a brutal summer tour (and I`m sure they`ll be back on track before too much longer), but Sat night was a major disappointment.
