It was the most anticipated show for months for myself and my friends. I saw Roger with The Who in 1989 in Vancouver and own the 1989 performance of 'Tommy' the Who did on TV, which was done after the Vancouver show because Pete Townshend's hand was bandaged from the injury he sustained doing a windmill in Seattle.
This show was fantastic. Roger's voice was excellent considering the surgery he had on his throat. Simon Townshend not only has his brother Pete's voice but many onstage manerisms, he even looks alot like Pete. you know they are brothers. Simon sang Pete's songs and song parts at the show. The band, Rhythm Guitar, vocals are Simon, lead guitar and music arrangements by Frank Simes, awesome, Jon Button-Bass, Loren Gold- keyboards and Scott Devours on Drums. Fantastic lineup. The sound was superb. Great band "B" for Roger to lead.
l The The concert Bowl at Roger's Arena was so very intimate. Only 7 rows on the floor and we were in row 5. The sound , lighting and whole experience will be remembered forever. I scored the setlist taped to the floor. It was either Roger's or Frank Simes and it's already framed with my ticket.
I'm 48, Partially disabled now, Roger would remember me as the guy wearing the sunglasses as I suffer from photophobia, bright lights cause me pain and blindness. I love the Who. The Who were the band for My Generation and Baba O'Riley is our Anthem. I grew up with Pictures of Lily, Pinball Wizard, Who Are You, Boris the Spider and I even became a Pinball Wizard at the Arcade in Kitchener Ontario Called Tommy's Place. I Still play awesome today.
I hear next year Roger is teaming with Pete Townshend for the Quadrophenia tour. Can't wait. I know Vancouver was not a great sell for Tommy, Roger did not cancel and we are very grateful for that. He Thanked us for coming in These difficult times. I was also very moved when he said he feels as if John Entwistle and Keith Moon are up on stage with him. I hope he can make Vancouver the next tour also. Thank-you Roger and the "No Plan B Band" he created. The show was superb.
