I’ve lived in Roanoke my entire life. I’ve been Deadicated since 1972. Seeing the GD in my hometown on 7/27/74 was an extraordinary experience. I was 18 years old and this was my 8th show. This show was DIFFERENT in all the good ways. PITB was our big jam and a damn good one. A Fender Rhodes instead of the grand ? Made it different in a good way. The US Blues > Jam > Promised was VERY good in the only time way. Primal !! And with 100% certainty, there was no encore that night. The civic center was only about 1/2 full that night. We saw Billy running across Williamson Rd back to the Holiday Inn immediately after the show. There was NO Eyes encore. JBG sent us out with smiles on our faces. The GD came back go SWVa in 78 at Virginia Tech and for 2 wonderful nights in 87 again back at the Roanoke Civic Center. All sold out wild ass affairs. MUCH different from that special night on 7/27/74. I just sat on my back porch watching the river flow and listened to this one start to finish. What an incredible recording and memory !! Thanks for this one specifically !!! I was at the Capitol Center twi nights later. Another spectacular show and back to the normal weird and wonderful. Big jam and longer show. But this 7/27 has never been far off my mind. Even 54 years ago yesterday !!! I recommend not listening to this show until you have the time to fully digest and enjoy it from Bertha to Johnny B Goode. Enjoy !!!

What a treasure. Energy is nice and I especially like what Keith is doing on this one. Hints of The Band with Garth Hudson come to mind. Stands up to repeated listening.

You listen to your favorite band for decades. Knowing you have NOT heard everything but sometimes feeling like you don’t plan on hearing something anymore that’s a true for-the-first-time. And then you do. Because that’s what the Grateful Dead does. Here: the we’re-not-done-with-this-U.S.-Blues-just-yet jam —> Promised Land. Thank you, Dave - joy!

I second the Big River-US Blues magic. Great show overall. Thanks for throwing in a 1974 show along with the more recent gems! Awesome app!!
