What an absolutely amazing PITB coming out of Space. I had to go back and listen again once it was over. There is so much space for everyone to contribute. This is one of those shows you have to hear.

The first set is magic. All of the tunes through Desolation Row are played w/ touch and energy. Of course the Dark Star is magnificent. The gooey space before they break into is fantastic. The recording is CRISPY. LOVING PLAY DEAD!!!

Thanks for this one! I attended over 200 shows from the early ‘80’s thru ‘95. I have never heard Phil sound as insane as on this Jack Straw. Truly unforgettable how that bass sounded and felt. Bill Walton described Phil’s sound as “flesh eating.” It certainly was on 8/16/91. Another vivid memory of this show was seeing the spinners on the side of the pavilion wobble in unison as they lost their minds and footing when Dark Star popped up in the first set. That week of shows in Sacto and Mountainview were awesome. Never had such a good time…
