Reviews for Grateful Dead: 7/3/1966 Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco, CA

Esoteric Jeff is absolutely right. The band is still amateurish at this point. Jerry sounds like the only professional among them. There are some good moments here and there, but honestly it’s amazing how much better this band was just two or three months later. ~ historical note: six new songs were debuted at this show, and two of those were *only* played at this show.

The 30 TRIPS boxed set begins here, with a mid-66 show. There is earlier Dead available from this year (you wouldn't want to hear it!) and later as well (they first truly mature as a live act in November of 1966) but this is an honest enough representation of the gawky beginnings of the Dead. And...it's not that great. It's ADEQUATE. But if they hadn't mutated so quickly it's doubtful we'd be listening to these 7/66 shows. They're pretty amateurish! Still, think of them as baby photos, and they're cute.

I love to listen to bands in their beginnings. This is no exception. And at this quality from 66. Fantastic! It's funny to hear a smattering of claps rather than the roar of a crowd when a song ends.

Tastebud. Never knew this tune existed. Love this app.

What a treat to be able to hear the dead at this level of fidelity and see what they were cooking up in 66’. The acid is dripping from Bear’s recording and sounds absolutely on point, this is fantastic.

Why are you reading reviews?? CONFUSED?, just listen to the music play.

Love this app!!! I’m so happy I get to hear all these all old recordings all in one spot…. I was born in 73’ and became a Dead Head in the late 80’s. This is the essential app for any lover of the Grateful Dead music. ………….???????????

Compared to the ‘66 shows that I’ve heard on the archive this was night and day better audio wise in every way. I love Pigpen but his organ was loud to the point of overmodulation and distraction on the Archive 1966 shows; at least on the soundboards. Bravo to whoever remixed this. Jerry’s guitar is also up much more in the mix. Love the Dead as a psychedelic bar band.
