The tapes for the shows included on DAVE'S PICKS 6 were late '69 reels that had only recently been recovered to the vaults, so this release was spectacularly welcome for that reason alone. But truth be told, 12/20 & 21/69 are only "very good" shows for the Dead in late '69. Let that be evidence then of just how on fire this band was in late '69. The WORKINGMAN'S DEAD songs have now arrived, and the band has *found* its voice. Only a "very good" night, but with the Dead that means transcendence.
