5/21/74. Real out there man. Set One opens with a loose and easy Me & My Uncle. Everyone delivers. It's got the blown away rhythm of those early 70s Dead shows with the creeping fusion of jazz. Definitely one of the finest Me & My Uncle cuts I ever heard. Real mind bender baby. Love the spatial overlay. Phased. Crazy. Beautiful. Brown Eyed Women is a personal favourite of mine and this outing is a nice land baby. Solid solo. It's pre '77/'78 so it's short. But it's a vibe. Far out. Pat. It Must Have Been The Roses is a raw. Emotional. Hits like a heatwave and stays. Harmony baby. The harmony is a soother. The Race is On has that tempo. That pace. It slips in like a real straight hook. Planted. Landed. Floats. You're never out in 2nd place with the Dead. Donna's voice. Baby I'm in love. Scarlet Begonias holds up. Keeps the momentum real easy. Man at Row Jimmy you've already cut a fine show. The vibe. You're chilled. You've done the emotions. You've jived. You've imbibed. You're living this life force of a show. Row Jimmy packs it. Plays it out that little gentler. It's one of my favourite songs and it's delivered like good news here baby. Playing in the Band. I'll let you beautiful cats unpack that sweet bag...catch you on down the line in 46 minutes baby.
