The recording is incredible, while the performance is standard for 1976 (which is far from being a diss). On a good stereo the band sounds like they’re playing in your living room. Kudos to all the technicians involved! Without a doubt, the highlights are the Playin’ sandwich, which truly exemplifies the spontaneous musical conversation this band was capable of (since the Supplication filler was obviously unplanned and had to be negotiated musically by Weir), AND the Slip>Drums>Slip sandwich which sounds both unplanned and thunderous. In the Drums, you hear the originality that led to this becoming a show staple just a year and a half later. Also, note Keith’s underrated contributions throughout, especially on Stella blue!
