You can really dig the sound of the Dead at the time. Together. Tight. Cohesive. Connected.
Brent's last tour before he sadly passed.
One of the things I love most about the Dead and I've kicked this scene into a lot of reviews, is how the sound evolves without losing the technical or musical manifestations of brothers that have gone before. This is a great listen for that, and as a hallmark for everything Brent contributed.

Easy to Love You stands for me. What a voice.
Peggy O is raw. From it's opening pitch you can feel the emotion. It's one of the most underrated performances and Jerry proves his versatility. The man's got chops. It's a little more up tempo and I dig that. Solo is soothing. Smooth. There's something about it that speaks to the spirit baby.
When I paint my Masterpiece is one of my favourite cuts. At Deer Creek it got the treatment from Bobby, with some standout vocals. Bob doing Bob is always a hoot.
Brown Eyed Women and Deal. As slick, quick and sweet as 77-78.
Set Two lifts like the breeze.
With a real delicate China Cat Sunflower. We're treated to musicianship.
Looks Like Rain brings in the pulse.
It's Terrapin Station though that pushes Set Two into the cosmos with this earthy, minimalist drive. Real far out.
Jam>Drums>Space>The Other One flick the switch for that acid country vibe that breathes on its own. There's a palpable movement of music that works through the execution of that transition...
Morning Dew is haunting, beautiful. Real.
The Weight closes the first night.
And like Brent says, "I gotta go, but my friend he can stick around"...
