Reviews for Umphrey's McGee: 8/17/2023 The Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ

Top tier drum solo banter at the end of Sociable Jimmy.

Really cool to hear Andy and Jake on the kit. As for the 2nd set Bridgeless sandwich, the bread was great! The meat… not so much. Honestly the only underwhelming show they’ve played all year. With that said I still thought Trucks did a great job. He’s got this hi-hat shuffle thing going on here and there that is awesome.

Was there, was great. So lucky to catch them inside at the Pony, small venue vibes. Duane was the standout drummer for sure.

Yeah I’m the guy who was on Reddit at this show. But goddamn Duane Trucks. He had me sold with that Bridgeless Pt. 1 and the rest of set II was so solid and dancey. Set I was a treat to be around. A band without its backbone, with everyone pitching in to hold things together. Andy kept it simple, Jaco brought the heat and lost the beat, and that Russian dude rushed the Ringo. One man shined brightly that set, and his name is Brendan Bayliss. BB is the greatest bandleader in jam, and I don’t give a fuck about anyone who thinks otherwise. This night would not have worked if it wasn’t for him guiding everyone who came onstage to hold it down for Kris. And his first words of the night? “Let’s make some noise for Kris Meyers.” Leader. Brendan fucking Bayliss everyone.

Time to Old Yeller the Hot Joel Girl. Solid Kris-less show. Miss him greatly.
