The first set was absolutely dead in energy, disgustingly flat. I was riding the rail way up at the front. Absolutely no reaction to Foolish Heart bust out or Saint. Bunch of rude and entitled vip 60 year old bastards, I don’t even think they were heads! Nobody up front was dancing, and it certainly didn’t look like they were enjoying themselves. I was though! Second set was very good, and reminiscent of Hollywood Bowl 2021 levels of playing.

The Best

I was there for my first dead show. It’s almost heartbreaking to hear this show and not wonder how great Jerry would have been and what the bad would’ve sounded like with Phil and Keith or Brent or even Pig. I’d heard some dead and co shows beforehand to get used to their current sound without the others. I personally didn’t have huge expectations; I just wanted to see Bobby and Billy and Mickey in person. Bob sang a lot, and his vocals aren’t what they used to be, but he did a good job with all things considered. He even screamed during Saturday Night which was just super fun. The band played really well, much better than I thought they were going to. Mayer is so good. He’s not Jerry, but he is John Mayer, and he can play a goddamn guitar, that’s for sure. The set list was incredible. Overall, I was blown away. This is the best this band has sounded since Jerry died. And it’s not the Grateful Dead. It’s this band, which sounds different. And that’s ok. Because if you listened to the music play it was serene. They had the crowd on the edge of their seat, or dance floor or whatever they were stationed in, from start to finish. I was born after Jerry died, so I’ll take what I can get, and that shit was bonkers

Opening with 11:11 Chinacat seemed to foreshadow the good luck this show presented. Always a privilege to hear the Dead in any iteration. Thanks for a great show. Looking forward to Wrigley 22.
