Loving this show! Phil is going off on the let it grow. You can really tell the band is building momentum like a freight train before hitting full break neck speed in the next few months. Pretty incredible vibe here!

As a kid who was in College at this point...this was peak Dead for my era. A Detroit area native, this was considered a hometown show. Had a free place to crash at a buddy's place at UofM, Snuck home for a few hours to borrow moms washer and grab some free food...and two glorious nights of the Grateful Dead. Row 3 on night one, Row 10 on night two. Crisler is a SMALL venue for this era. Great sound, great setlists. I have been looks big for quality recordings of these for many years.

As a Michigan alum, I can't imagine how this Not Fade Away would have felt that night. Unfortunately I got to Ann Arbor a few decades too late to be there.

Only Diamond Dupree played in 1989 and it was only played 3 more times after in the Dead’s run
