Reviews for The Disco Biscuits: 4/12/2024 Brooklyn Bowl, Nashville, TN

Look, I've seen the Biscuits a BUNCH since '98, but this show - WOW. I've had the pleasure of witnessing some amazing artists (The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, Phish, Whoever) live and none have the musical chops like this, the IMan -> Tribulations & the entire show was a musical master class dropped in "The Music City" and my former home for 5 1/2 years where I worked in the Music Business. They started with Stars In The Sky, an easy 1-4-5-1 type song with the minor 4 bridge to the 5/1 etc, simple theoretically to Tricycle mid-set -> a complete 180 from the ease & simpleness, but very well played "Stars In The Sky". 1 of my buddies called the "Massive Attack" sample - which, they are really trying & creating with the sampling laid over revolving disco funk woth different rhythms and musical thought meshing with some old Pull - Just YES!! Expand on it, keep pushing that creative envelope to explore all what's inside. The IMan was on point in Set 2 as was every note through end of set 2. The energy was intense it felt sooooo goooood! Then, The Sabre Dance ??, get your face at the door ?? - I've not witnessed musicians moving as 1 seamlessly like that in over 25 years. The only time I can relate anything musically to it is when I saw Steve Vai with The Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) In 2017 or '18 maybe.. they were covering some Zappa tunes like "Dog Breath Variations 1 & 2" & Vai's own "Fire Garden Suite". Point being, that's the only other time I've witnessed musicians getting off live like this creatively only 1 other time since 12/30/99. What a special night, with my special friends / extended family. Couldn't have been more perfect, Thank you!

These reviews ain't wrong. That second set is something else. Fully locked in, patient in transitions, Barber busting out the grooves and showing why he's one of the most unique and best guitarists in the world, Brownie solid like he's been all tour, Allen in beastmode. Spaga secretly controlling the band and making it look easy. Damn is it a good time to be a Biscuit fan.
