I`ve been seeing SCI since 2000 and this was a bit above average show. UIC is a choice laid back venue. Entry was a joke and there are no beer sales there, but the sound is phantastic. Really like how Cheese has added all the hyper lights and trippy techno video screen. I thought the 1st set was good with "Sirens" being extra extra kind. But it was 2nd set this night before hulaween where the magic lies. After listening a few times to the three minute Shakedown they played, it`s obvious that Nershi can play ala Jerry any time he pleases but so chooses to maintain his own excellent style. The transition into Bam is so exciting. Orion`s Belt blew my mind this night very very trippy and as this girl said that I was with "Is there a style SCI won`t play?" To that I said "nope." And beginning with the Dead and ending with ABB shows that they always keep in mind their roots of jam greats. The encore is absolutely amazing - worth the download just to hear that. Oh yah, one more thing that stood out - Joyful Sound was actually sung instead of spoken. Very cool! As always, Kyle is Brent reinvented with a different voice. Ramble on Rose!!!

Had very high hopes for this Hulaween run and didn`t leave dissapointed at all. San Jose is a fantastic way to open a show even though it was a so so version with very little jamming. Sirens is very average but it does have some very dark tones to it, and it led to a fantastic jam that segued amazingly into Rhum which was one of the highlights of the weekend! Best Rhum n this incidentalist has heard anywhere! Also of note was the set ending IIWII which has turned into a major POWERHOUSE and it delivered in a huge way!
Set 2 started in one of those very special ways with the house music playing a smokin` live Shakedown Street that got the crowd in a frenzy. Oddly enough, the lights went down and i found myself dissapointed because the Shakedown was so hot that I wanted to hear the rest of it! Lo and behold, John-O cranked up the Dead as the band took the stage and Cheese picked it up and finished it! It was one of those magical moments that I`ll remember forever. The rest of the set was fairly standard with the exception of Orion`s Belt>Jig which was awesome. The Lands End encore was stupendous and LONG! Thank you cheese

San Jose is one of the best openers Cheese has in their bag of tricks. Also this is one of the songs in which you can hear a vast improvement due to the new addition of Jason, who by the way is the man. You couldn’t knock the smile off his face if you tried, like Keith he will make a great politician! Jason for President, or maybe Keith’s VP. But I digress. Like some of the other new material not a huge fan of Sirens, I like it but just a little poppy for me, the kids sure love it though. But the segue into Rhum N’ Zhouc was SICK!!! I really liked the middle eastern theme to it, if you can call it that, Zhouc always a pleasure to hear, and the build up in this segue was excellent. Doing my time was great to hear, as I didn’t get much bluegrass from the boys this summer between Kansas City and Milwaukee. And they definitely filled the void this weekend! The Got What He Wanted was absolutely sick, I am a huge fan of this song, Keith was throwing down the bombs on this, really funky jam. I don’t know what kind of effect he was using, but whatever it was it really thickened and drew out each note. Is What Is was a nice set closer, I really liked the cow bell in the intro, nice touch Travis. Jon-O is the best sound guy a Cheesehead could ask for, and if you haven’t thanked this man yet, he is definitely SCI’s sixth man, and you should let him know that you appreciate him! Plus he has great taste in music. Threw in a dead show during set break, and its always fun to get down during the set break, Shakedown had this effect and rather than cutting the song off, the boys just came out and rocked it out. As I am not the biggest Bam fan, this made it a lot more fun!!! My first Heart of Saturday night, nice to hear, only time will tell if this will be SCI’s One More Saturday Night, not as rockn’ but appropriate. Joyful was sick, and I always love to hear this tune, as it truly is a song that motivates me to give 110% in everything I do in life. I hope it does the same for you. Orions is a great tune, and also gave me a chance to cool it down a little bit. The Segue between this song and Valley is just so perfect, it would be nice to see these two tied together from now on like a China>Rider. Valley has to be one of my fav newer songs, and seeing it evolve since the jig, has been a journey. What I know WHAT! This new Kyle song is FUNKY with a nice little latin flavor. Also the jam near the end that gets darker is sick, “and your left in the sun” part. Keith also employs that bass effect used in Got What he Wanted, whatever it is I really like it. I thought the Outside Inside was set closer, but nope, they tricked us! And what treat it was! JESSICA was great to hear and a great surprise. My favorite part of the show had to be the Lands End, my fav SCI song by far. The Glory Chords was soo intense that I had to look around at the end of the show to find my mind. I am pretty confident I lost it in the heat of Glory Chords. Smile was just icing on the cake! Thanks boys for the amazing ride, and don’t question buying this show, it’s a no brainer, GET IT!

THIS SHOW WAS MY 10TH INCIDENT. INCREDIBLE! THE CHEESE IS A CONSTANTLY CHANGEING MUSICAL MACHINE. THIS IS MY FAVORITE INCIDENT, UNTIL THE NEXT. THE NEW PERCUSSIONIST IS AGREAT ADDITION TO THE BAND.
