When he broke the long Dead-cover drought back in Athens earlier this year, it was such a heavy, emotional tribute to Bobby that you almost wondered when—or if—those songs would just naturally find their way back into regular rotation. Dropping it as a massive second-set opener in Oakland, strictly for the love of the groove and without the weight of a memorial, felt like a huge milestone. It proved that these tunes are still a living, breathing part of the band's DNA, ready to be busted out and jammed on purely for the joy of it. The torch isn't just being preserved; it's actively running!

Great night in Oaktown (10/4/2026 3:58:14 PM)
Cassidy was cool & a nice nod to Bob Weir & the Grateful Dead. I am glad, however, that Billy has chosen to hardly ever play Dead songs. They just dont need to go there. There's more than enough other music to play without covering the Grateful Dead's music.
