Reviews for Grateful Dead: 3/25/1972 Academy of Music, New York, NY

The Bo Diddley set is pure joy. Play it for any Grateful Dead skeptic, as I have forever, and dare them not too fall in love with the greatest dance band of all-time

A novelty. This used to comprise most of disc 1 of the (4CD) DP 30, and while it's fun at least once to hear the Dead playing enthusiastically as Bo Diddley's backing band, it's all rather pro forma. In set 2 the Dead whips out a few songs typically reserved for the Jerry Garcia Band, and while they're a bit ragged (not being in the Dead's regular repertoire) they're a lot of fun. Would have appreciated the full second set - a Pig-focused tribute to a departed Hell's Angels friend - instead, though.
