Reviews for Grateful Dead: 8/24/1968 Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA

As hard as it is to believe, the band was so bitterly disappointed about the outcome of these two Los Angeles shows (8/23 and 8/24) that they FIRED Bobby and Pigpen immediately afterwards. Needless to say, the "firing" didn't take. And although, in the full context of the band's career, I know why they were frustrated at that particular moment, it's really hard to complain about this show, released as TWO FROM THE VAULT. Recorded on multitrack, the band still hasn't developed Dark Star but all else stings

This entire run from 8-21-68 through 8-24-68 are phenomenal. Obviously they have had good shows to this point and great individual sets and songs but they are really dialed in over this stretch. Hoping it continues past this show.

Sublime New Potato Caboose. A 14 minute masterpiece that transports you. It was on Two from the Vault and stands as good today as it was on that August night of 1968.
