And, oh yeah, the “Tighten Up” jam!

Dark Star played slow and melodic as if for Duane Allman who died the week before in a motorcycle crash. RIP Duane

One of the best Dark Stars ever. I was floored when this came out way back when.

The "one disc wonder" it was called by fans, back in the day. Simply the second set of the Dead's Halloween show in Columbus OH 1971. The first set is adequate but unrevelatory. The encore of "Johnny B. Goode" would have fit on the disc. But you don't need them, or even want them really. Instead, an hour of perfection. One of the most lyrical "Dark Stars" ever. Wild times on "Not Fade Away." Just the gold.

Outstanding Dark Star

So good it was released as Dick’s 2nd Pick despite being only the second set.

If anyone asks me how to get into the Grateful Dead I give them this show. Perfect second set energy with intertwining sandwiches and rollicking fun dead. If this set doesn’t hit I don’t know what will.
