The end of a wild Spring '73 tour where the Dead unveiled the amazing batch of songs that would go on anchor both WAKE OF THE FLOOD and even MARS HOTEL. Forgotten gems like the original arrangement of Loose Lucy are played with near-liquid assurance. The best part all the shows from this era is the Dead now have so many great jamming songs to work with that they never repeat themselves night to night. Here the jam emerges from HCS, a complete one-off. And yes, Keith was locked in.

Early 73' is apex of Keith on acoustic grand. Simply beyond anything done in the live rock format then or now. Check out this Here Comes Sunshine for example. I also love how Billy's kick drum is so defined and prominent in mixes from this era. Billy's nuanced and expressive kick drumming is something to behold.
