I was at this show.I was only 19 years old and had a limited tape collection so I’d only hear Loose Lucy on Mars Hotel. For some reason I was talking in the parking lot about that song and wishing them to play it. The slow jam intro had me fooled I didn’t know until Jerry sang the first line. But I will always remember the grind on his face when the Cap Center crowd caught on.

If only I had jumped on the bus 3 months earlier. I’d have been at this one for sure. Less than 30 miles from home. I’ll always remember the first time that I heard this show though. It was the next summer and my friend had an audience tape. I was really into soundboards at the time but this tape made me find a whole new appreciation for the audience tapes. Big River ends and the Boys start tuning and a few people here and there start to catch on and there’s a buzz that I can feel coming from the stereo and Jerry starts the first verse, “Loose Lucy is my….” From that point you could hear nothing but the explosion that was the crowd losing their collective shit. The hairs on my arm stood up as I wondered how amazing that moment must have felt to the lucky ones in that show. I was not only instantly hooked on audience tapes but as a youngster with only one show under my belt it has planted the first seed of an idea. The idea that I really wanted to be at every show. Not just when they came around the D.C. area but every show everywhere. I started making plans and made that dream a reality.

For my money this is the best show of Spring 90 (even though I was at Nassau, which was not chopped liver).
