I was crying (in a good way) during Terrapin Station and then Vince comes in with the PERFECT amount of handclaps I have ever witnessed and I am laughing. ALL GOOD. What a jam sequence. What a show. What a combo on the keys. Vince and Bruce team like salt n pepper/ pb&j. Friggin Phalange Freaks!

Let’s just start with a BOLD statement. This is the GOAT Picasso Moon! Do not skip to the Althea. This is the one you’re looking for. This version has a little extra pep, then the final solo makes it the best. The chromatic climbs at the end of every four bars is something they had never done or would ever do again. The rest of the set is one of those, “Hey! We haven’t played so & so in a while, let’s do it”. First CC Rider in a year and half, then the first Take A Lot To Laugh since 6/10/73! El Paso, High Time, BT Wind, then what I personally think is the 2nd best Deal the boys ever played (1st-11/30/80). This is THE version for the interplay between all the guys. It’s not just Jerry shredding. Bruce & Bobby build a foundation that pushes everyone else. When they reach the peak, everyone is there. Perfect synergy! Set 2 keeps the energy going. Not perfect, but a really solid set, especially Help>Slip>Frank.

remember many years ago getting parts of this show from The Deadhead Hour WNEW 102.7 NYC Monday nights at midnight but anyway Love this show I might be a minority on this but love Picasso Moon great stuff good 420 show

For any “timer freaks” out there looking at this and going all, “What!!! A 24 minute Terrapin!!”. Obviously that’s not correct. At about 15 minutes, Terrapin fades into a very cool, full-band jam led by Bobby and the drummers. Phil, Jerry, and Bruce lay down cool shit all over the place. Never heard a jam theme similar to this one. At the end it breaks down to individual players and some duets before moving into Drums. There’s also some kind of clapping machine doing syncopated hand claps. These “pre Drums jams” that occurred between like 81 and 92 with LOTS happening in 89-91 are often the freshest, most captivating part of any second set. I love them and seek them out.
