While it's true that the show definitely shows signs that something was 'off', technical or otherwise, this evening, I will defend the second improv as one of the very best this band has put out, this tour or any. The improv is unlike anything else, and maybe in was almost a kind of result of desperation that they just went for it, because especially in the second half the piece really enters emotional territory.
