The second evening in Copenhagen has that indefinable quality that makes it feel rather special. Perhaps it’s just the shake-up in the set list, or maybe the band were more on-point than usual. Whatever the cause, the crushing Level Five is at its acerbic best in this take-no-prisoners reading. Red also continues the charge, with retooled guitar parts and additional brass ramping up the energy levels. The fierce improv in the middle of Easy Money features fraught lead guitar snaking through increasingly tangled clumps of percussion and sax. There are times within all of this frantic activity that the group become untethered from the original song. Excepting the brief firebreak of Interlude, with Talking Drum and LTIA Pt2 following on from Easy Money, the group have effectively replicated the running order of side two of Larks’ Tongues In Aspic album. Fans of this album get the bonus of having LTIA Pt 1 open the second half of the show.
