Just one day separates the family-and-friends show from the formal start of the tour, but the difference between the two is clearly discernible. The double punch of LTIA and POAC, the latter with an especially ferocious vocal, clears the way to a truly barmstorming Cirkus, and the hazardous tightrope walk that makes up large sections of Fracture. Rather than simply recreating the tones and textures of its 1974 forebear, the full use of the expanded ensemble makes this particular reimagining of an old classic light and nimble in the early stages and dangerously gnarly in its second half as Fripp and Jakszyk climb vertiginous scales. The first half of the show, topped by a bravura reading of The Talking Drum and LTIA Pt2, is a whole concert in itself. The fact that there’s another hour or more to go is just icing on the Crimson cake.
