A mere seven days after King Crimson’s first formal return to active service and the band are really cutting the mustard, the rug and quite probably the very legs [endtease]out from under all the nay-sayers who moan it shouldn’t have been done. Containing what is for this listener an arguably definitive live version of Matte Kudasai, the gig has some real energy: B’Boom swings like the clappers on this outing whilst Thrak is downright low and dirty, thrashing about in the muddy end of the pool – just where it should be! Sounding comfortable and more in control of things than the September outings, the Double Trio shred SSEDD and a fire off a cracking good Indiscipline that shows Belew’s mastery of comic timing and features a fearsome wigging out from the back three. The old and new elements have really started to gel. Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?
