Wow - on the third night at the Savoy KC opens with rock-steady Discipline that emanates such power that even from this distance of time and space, you can’t help but get into the groove. If the previous evening’s second house had signs of the team wilting slightly, they sound as though they are back with a vengeance for this first house. There’s an astonishing version of Neil and Jack and Me that is so savage that at times it feels as though it’s going to blow apart. The solo at the very end of the song combines Fripp’s love of a yearning melody with some out-of-this-world clinches. Astonishing stuff and arguably one of the very best pre-Beat performances. The cruel, but often accurate concert-going consensus is that when the drummer strikes up a solo spot, then it’s time to go the bar. That’s not a mistake any self-respecting Crimhead would make and Bruford is in playful form tonight. Indiscipline takes things up a notch, as the team revels in being let off the leash. Riotous fun ensues on each of those break-out sections. Listen out also for another tumultuous Sartori. Talk about raising the roof!
